• This is an inexpensive student model mountain dulcimer. Mine has no 6 1/2 fret. It is designed to play in DAA (Ionian) tuning. By and large, the method books for mountain dulcimer will tell you to tune your instrument in DAD tuning (Mixolydian) and it becomes much more important to have a 6 1/2 fret, as I am now learning.
